Summer will be here soon, and we’re anticipating hot and humid nights ahead.
There’s nothing worse than losing sleep when it’s hot, so spring is the perfect time to get your bed linen sorted for summer.
You’re going to need a summer duvet and some lightweight sheets, but the fabric choice is up to you. These are our recommendations.

Bamboo fabrics are becoming increasingly popular these days for several reasons. First of all, they’re soft. Made using fibres derived from the bamboo plant, they’re naturally moisture-wicking, which makes them cooler on the skin than other fabrics.
Secondly, they’re eco-friendly. Even though chemicals are used to create the fibres from bamboo pulp, they have a small ecological footprint.
Featured in materials like rayon, modal, and lyocell, you’ve likely seen bamboo fabrics around in clothing and underwear. Now that summer is here, the natural moisture-wicking and cooling properties of the fabric make for excellent sheets.
Cotton is next in our hierarchy of fabrics for summer sheets.
However, it’s important to be picky with your cotton sheet collection. Some people often find cotton sheets a little scratchy and uncomfortable. A good rule of thumb is the higher the thread count, the softer the fabric, so keep that in mind when shopping for cotton sheets.
If you’re into your skincare, you likely already sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase. The idea behind this is that the smoothness of the fibres is likely to reduce fine lines and wrinkles on your face and keep your hair from getting mussed by catching on the rougher fabric. Silk sheets also have many benefits – they’re very breathable and naturally cooling. Also, the cellular structure of silk draws moisture from the body, so if you’re a hot sleeper, they might be your best bet.
However, they are very expensive, which is worth keeping in mind.
We’re calling linen sheets ‘unique’ as many people find them uncomfortable to sleep on. However, some people love their linen sheets and take great joy in pulling them out each summer. If you’re a bit unsure about linen but keen to try them out, it’s worth noting that linen does soften each time you wash it. However, you want to stick to lighter colours, as heavily dyed linen can shed.
